Well, most of you know I`m from the great north, more north than Phoenix, and more east of Moobypets.

Been trolling the forums here, way too much info to handle, came across a few gen 3`s in my life around the northern salt belt and to say the least, I wasn`t impressed.

This week though, came across a decent `99Black Gen 3. I've been emailing the seller because it's on a local Kijiji ad. He claims to have 155k km's on it as well as welded cams, and is willing to show me pictures when I'm willing to come check it out. The asking price is 3500.

He's about 2 hours away, and it's freaking cold around these parts with a cold snap on its way. How can I keep my cool while checking out the car, as well as having any negotiation tact, if there is any to be had.

I could use some advice, tips, tricks, shunting, whatever floats your boat at this point.

Never ever ever ever fall in love with a car, and if I was going gen III in all honesty i'd got 96, 99 was clear the shelves and least options IIRC.

I fell in love with my 95, what a mistake that was. I want more. Around my area finding any Gen 3 with no rust is a godsend, this is the first one in a long time. Also it's more convenient because it's within my province, so there's no need for additional inspections.

Reason I bring it up is because I found a 96 in Ottawa, Ontario. And I'd have to pass inspection, as well as the engine and trans have never been opened. For 2500 I'd likely pass on that one.

Plus, if it's a clearing of the shelves 99, wouldn't it be more along the lines of a regular Taurus then with just a 3.4V8 stuffed into it?

The options weren't all that great. Let's face it, the only reason to get a SHO is the motor. Get the best running car with the least rust you can find.

I feel you , Im getting excited seeing a GEN2 SLO nowadays.... let alone SHOs and rust free SLOs...

For the ontario/qc inspection , theres no way around it. But if you need an inspection only becasue the car sat (in qc) for too long , then for 100$ some companies offer you to re-buy and re-sell it to you - it automaticly removes the inspection in the system.

I'm going to stay in province for my next buy, way too much hassle on out of province cars. I'll report back on how nice the Black 99 is.
Maybe I'll be driving it back...

whats that in miles? to be sure its rust free you need to get under the rockers...i thought my gen3 was rust free...boy was i wrong! personally, i like the 99, i like the rims better, did the 99 have a different FDR? or was that just on the duratec slo? think of less options as less that can break down.

it's about 96k.

I'm in a completely different market, I know, but I like to tell the story anyway so... :D

I bought an unwelded '99 in Sept. with 91.5k for $1600, they were asking 2500. It ran "ok", but had a miss. Seller's mech thought it COULD be the HG going. I thought it was coils, and it was.
It HAD a torn driver's seat and needs paint, but the body is good, no dents/rust.

Covered in salt right now. Gotta get it washed today.

I'll have about 3k (incl $400 for tires and $600 for paint) in mine by the time it looks good. I've done all the mech work myself.

IMO if you could snag a really nice one (welded) for 3k at that mileage I think you'd have gotten a pretty good deal.

60 miles = 100 kms
