Ok I got a 1990 SHO 5 speed. I took it to a auto repair place, to get an estmate on how much it would be to do my clutch, he told me me that the clutch set would cost me around $230, and then he told me in order to getto the clutch he was going to have to pick up the motor, cause the tranny was under the motor and that was the only way to get to it. total he told me $875. Now i'm thinking this guy is trying screw me in the rear end, and he ain't even talking about using any vasoline. Some one help me, and tell me is what this guy is saying to true.

$230 is about right for the clutch kit. And he will have to hang the motor up, because you have to completely remove the subframe in order to drop the transmission. $875 is about average (if that includes the $230 clutch fee). $645 labor is a little steep.

I chose to only spend the $230, then bought the clutch video from http://www.shonutperformance.com/ and did the job myself. Saved at least $400, and I know the work was done right!

I just replaced my clutch myself.I'm SOOO glad I did it on my own.The job looks really bad,but once you get into it it's not so bad.I bought the clutch kit from Autozone for $230.00,got some Aluminum Subframe Bushings, and could have got some better motor mounts(should have done that) and still came out cheaper.
Read up on it a little, see what you think. You'll be glad you done it your self. :thumb:

When I had the clutch done in my MTX, it cost me a grand. I would have very much liked a $875 price. Unfortunatly I lacked the space and time to fix it myself, so I had to pony up the cash. :(
I must have gotten somewhat screwed on the clutch price though; as I think it costed me $400 for the parts and such.

I ran into a SHO guy at the grocery store the other day, he said he had just gotten a clutch job done. It cost him $900, and that was after shopping around for a "good" price, others wanted $1000-1200 for the job. So the $875 is not unreasonable.

I agree with the other guys, DIY it! :thumb:

If you want to be a SHO owner, but are unable/unwilling to do 99% of the wrenching yourself, you will be screwed, in the ****, hard and dry without the benefit of a reach around.

These are great cars, but, they are high maintenance. Make that high, expensive maintenance. This is why you can buy such a great car for nuthin. If you can't do the work yourself, get a honda.

I didn't even know what a "SHO" was a few years ago, but i always did my own work on my own vehicles. Turns out that the SHO isn't so bad if you take your time and learn to love the search function on this forum! Now I think I know the SHO as mutch as a chevy v8! :dribble:

I did a SHO clutch 2 years ago, but I wouldn't do it again if some shop would do a decent job for $650 +,- labor. Ford was talking 2,000 ++, Mr Clutch laughed, the best local shop labor price I could find was $1,000 (plus parts).

I remember having about $350 in parts after I added a throw-out bearing, rear main crank oil seal, transaxle seals, sleve retainer goop, and the bushing kit for the shaft. Of course I replaced the motor mounts , lower radiator hose and trans seals while I had her gutted, which cut into my "savings" about $300. Almost forgot the $150 really good 3 ton floor jack to get the SHO "WAY" up in the air.

That's a little harsh, but 100% true, and 110% funny. :D

Average clutch job on an SHO is between $875 - $1000. Mine was $925 about a year ago. :frown:

Don't forget to inspect/change the rear main seal while you or your mechanic are in there. If it blows after the clutch is in and finished, you have to do all of that same labor again. You might as well change it now as cheap insurance.
