Depends on the year & trans style of your car.

89-93 MTX - 90 amp
94-95 MTX - 130 amp

93-95 ATX - 120 amp

Oh really, so Beth if we buy a re-man alt for the 90 I can specify 94-95 MTX & get the higher amperage & it will bolt in & plug in to stock harness?

A 94-95 mtx alt is not a direct fit replacement for an 89-93 unless you swap the alternator bracket and the AC compressor mounting bracket over. After you do that, you need to convert the 3 wire output on the newer 94-95 (3G) alternator to the 2 wire setup on the earlier cars. It can be done but it's not a walk in the park.

Of course I plan on doing it this year.. :)

Is there a Alternator that is 140amp for a 92? or is it cheaper to convert.

I just ran across this:
www.mean-green.com
www.excessiveamperage.com
www.h-o-alternators.com

In another forum. And those are expensive.
300-500 Dollars for a 200Amp Alternator.
I am powering my 600watt woofers, and two sets of component speakers.
my stock 90 probably wont take to the job.
What do you all think?>
Is there a major project to take a 94-95 MTX into my 92MTX?

EDIT:
Yeah, i see the harness thing. I was thinkin ATX. Ops.
So, Is there a way to get a higher amp Alternator? W.O Spending 300$

I have a 1600 watt amp powering my subs, and i have a stock 90 amp and havent run into any trouble yet. Who knows how much im really straining it though. Might cut down on its life a lot. I think i might do that conversion but it seems like a lot of work.

If theres a place that rebuilds them by you ask them if they can get you a higher amperage field coil. I rebuild them here in Indiana and most of the places we get our alternator parts from list higher amperage field coils to compensate for the drain from your subs. I've built a couple for some kids and they havent had any more problems.

I don't believe that there is a higher amperage coil available for the 90a Mitsubishi alternator that the 89-93 mtx SHO's run but I know for certain that the 3G (Bosch?) alternators that the 93-94 mtx's run can be rebuilt to handle substantially more than the 120a than they are rated at.

I talked to a couple shops to rebuild my 92 for more amps and they said it would take a couple weeks to get custom wound and some other things. It is not a popular model.

If you need a better alternator, the 94-95 3.0 (3G) is a much better alternator wrt to voltage regulation under load (nevermind the fact that it is a higher amp unit). It's somewhat of a pain to upgrade the earlier cars with this unit but if you need a stronger alternator, it's probably a better idea to upgrade to the later unit instead of hotrodding the 90a that we run. Just my opinion..
