The alternator on my '97 SHO is on it's last legs right now so I took into the local ford dealer for a quote. They quoted me $250 (Canadian) for the alternator and 4.5 hours labour. A nice $750 job.

I'm guessing the alternator is buried and it takes awhile to get to but the labour seems pretty steep.
Just wanted to know if anyone could tell me if this is the normal time ford charges for this job.

Thanks!

It is buried- and a real pain in the **** to change... One of those things that when it goes bad you say "oh s***"

its a pain no doubt but is doable by yourself. you can drop the subframe out abit or you can do it without but you squarm abit more. the biggest pain is getting the wires off blind id find. everything else is just twisting and turning.

HAHA! I ust changed mine a few weeks ago. Yeah it sucks at very minimum, it really isn't hard it is just a pain in the ass because everything is so tight and you need to work the alternator to get it out and then get it back in. 4.5 hours seems like a little too long but maybe thats just me. It took me 2 to 2.5 for me and it was my first time.

4 to 4.5 hours seems like a little to much from the stealer; Its a little hard but not that hard to charge that much, they really want your money.

4.5 hours seems high to me as well. They don't call it the stealership for nothing. No better time than the present to learn something new about your car!
