I just got my alt in the mail so I can fix my 91, But seems the pulled size is different. Do I want to leave the pulley thats on the new alt (bigger pulley than the old alt) or swap he pullies. And if a swap.... how Am Isuppose to hold a pulley from spinning so I can get that nut off, and hopefully the pulleys arent pressed on.

Yeah, but this one is so big I can't fit the belt on, thats with having the idler not installed in the car, can't imagine trying to get the idler in after if I managed to get the belt on.

Well wait a minuite now... I wouldnt say that... Bigger is better and works in conjunction with the smaller crank pulley dosent it? The crank determiens how fast the belt spins right? My guess is that he would have some dim lights @ idle, and when you run an alternator really slow isn't that ******* the diodes inside the voltage regulator?

It will run either way, and if you have an impact changing that pulley is super easy. **** I used to change my belt that way. :) I'd say try it like it is, and if nothing bothers you about it, then rock on!

Edit: Just read the 'can't get the belt on thing' How big is that pulley? without the idler it should have plenty of room / slack. Maybe your routing is off?

Hmmm I thought I responded to this thread already...

Leave it on there unless you get a batt light at idle.

To answer your question...impact gun and a strap wrench or wrap an old drive belt around the pully.

Edit...get us a picture of this uber-pully

Can't get a picture this late now, the pulley is about 1inch in diameter bigger though.

Just a guesstimate I would say my stock looks like 3inch and the one on then new alt looks like 4inch, I haven't measured though. Either way like I said I can't get the belt on with the tensioner out of the car, so that don't make much sense.

That looks about the same, my belt is kinda shot, got a new one coming tomorrow, so maybe thats the issue, but I would think a shot belt would be streched. It's so close to fitting over, but just can't quiet do it.

It's a UDP, took some messing with the tensioner and I finally got it on. And took a little prying to get the belt over the alt pulley, seems to run fine now though :thumb:
