Hey fellow SHO owners... I am writing this to see if anyone knows a place either online, or a store that has a really nice "rebuilt" alternator for my 1993 SHO (3.2L). Autozone, and Advanced auto both are out of stock around my area "Missouri", and their alternators are 120 amp. I was looking for maybe a 130-150 amp cause I have a lot of car audio amps running in my SHO. Will settle for a 120 amp if need be. Looking to spend no more than $220 for one... My battery charge light has been on "Faded" for the last month or so, and now it is getting brighter. The shop said I have a bad diode, and basically I am on a deathwatch with my alternator!! Take care of yourselves, and our beloved SHO's!! :)

Cincy SHO ( http://www.cincysho.com ) might still have a few of their brand new 150A alternators for $225 w/shipping with no core charge for the SHO (both ATX & MTX). Their site says special order only with limited quantities but it could be worth a shot.

Another option for a stock rebuilt is http://autoexpress.safeshopper.com/index.htm. They sell a stock rebuilt ATX alt. for $123.95 + $35.00 core with free UPS ground shipping.

Yet another option would be to find a local 'auto electric' shop that custom rebuilds alternators and starters. They can probably do a rebuild a little cheaper, and can usually rewind for higher amps as well.

I got mine through a local O'Reilly auto parts, but they also have an internet site (oreillyauto.com).

Good luck on finding a local shop that will rebuild it. The unit is made by mitsubishi and the last I heard the parts are available from Japan. I had to go through this last year.

Being that you are in missouri.... finding an O'Reilly auto parts shouldn't be hard, as they are based out of Springfield, Missouri.

The O'Reilly brand alternator 120 amp rebuild with lifetime warranty is part number 13447 and runs 179.99 with core exchange.

As for the internals to rebuild... I believe that borg warner lists them or most of them... I will check into that next time I am at work... I know the regulator and brushes are available, not to sure about the diodes though. at anyrate i'll check.

they built 160 amp heavy duty performance alternators for about $180.00, and are working on adapting the Motorcraft for the 1993 year using the 1994 alternator, electric plug, and alternator bracket.

You have a '93, so do I and went through some kind of **** when the original went, then repeated it when the rebuilt let go 4k miles later.

Seems there were 3 different alts used in 93, you will undoubtedly have "some issues". If you can get the one you have rebuilt (and can live w/o the car while that happens) at least your harness, belt, mounting and pulley will be "knowns" hint hint.

Knocking on wood that my 2nd rebuilt holds a while...
