All-over paint progress

Hey all, Its been a while since ive posted on the forums and i figured id start back off with a progress thread. I only have a few pics for now, but there will be more to come.

It all started about a month ago when i was backed into at a light. A guy in a big box truck went too far into the intersection and decided he needed to back up....Well, his trailer hitch went right through my grille and bent my hood.

I decided this would be a perfect opportunity to get rid of other annoying scratches dings and what-not, and just go with an all over repaint.

After calling countless junkyards, i finally found one with a gen 1...and it was white..hmm (it figures after i decide to repaint right??) Anyway..it was a plus also. I acquired the fiberglass hood, grille, headlights, and header panel all for 350 bucks!!

I dont have any pics of the damage from the accident, but here are some of previous dings and stuff i am repairing now.


Big dent on the fender

Between the fender and door

Between the front and rear door

This was a dent on the wheel well...I started sanding and dug into this..
oh no

Got rid of the Gen II spoiler, and the taurus embelem

Friend welding the holes up.

Took the fender off and threw the plus hood on.

New fender.

headlights/ header panel

Took the dents on the doors down to metal, and get em ready for filler

Thats all i had time for today. I will be gettin right back on it tomorow.

my car is looking like that but with every body panel sanded and everything off the car. I mean everything.

yea i know....i made sure he kept it cool. I woulda way rather used a mig welder but this is what i got...o well

My father manages a body shop so theres no problm there.

And as far as the actual paint is concerned, im just going with the same oxford white in whatever brand.

The spoiler i had was from a gen 2, and it didnt quite fit exact. I like the looks of gen ones without them as well.

Heres a little bit more from last night.

Got the fender on and fnished up the dents.

And cured a little bumper cancer.

you need to pull off that bumper and **** some of that rust under the license plate.

are you going to fill any of the body line or anything like that?

And..... Basecoat/Clearcoat or a Single Stage? I've had great success with both types, both PPG.

The bumper is coming off, for sure. Not gonna fill any body lines or anything, i kinda want to keep the original look. I am; however, going to paint around the windows and the mirrors black like a plus.

I was contemplating this myself...im not really sure what im doing with that yet.

You really need a good respirator for that stuff. It's not for a novice either....
