Well front oil seal and cps have been changed and all put back together but she won't start. When I go to start the car its ounds like the starter is not engaging or turning the engine. This is a new on on me. I lined up the cams for timing but now it sounds like the starter is the only thing turning. Anybody have any ideas? Everthing is connected and I didn't stray away from the basic task of the cps and the front oil seal. All the belts appear to be firm in position no slipping that I can tell of. The first time when I was finished and tried to start the car it turned over like normal but wouldn't fire up and after I went back in and fixed or realigned the cams it now won't engage from the starter. Should I crank the engine around by hand to possibly align the starter with the crankshaft, makes sense to me in the very basic sense but I haven't found and literature on what to do if it won't start after the cps has been changed. As usual....Help!!!

:nut:  :help:

Anybody can call me on my cell anytime, 303-437-9064 or you can text me and I'll give you a call back....I'm burning up Tom's cell enough already I would like to give him a break seeing how I always call on the weekends.

Virg,

If the starter is just whirring away and not coming into contact with the flywheel, there is a problem with the drive gear actuator or "Bendix".

Check to make sure that you have a good 12.8 volt or better at the positive terminal AT THE STARTER post. If you have good voltage there, make sure the cable is tight enough on the post that you can't move it with your hand.

If it's loose, disconnect the negative ground cable first from the battery and then remove and clean all the oil and crud off the terminal post and cable eyelet, sand with sandpaper or steel wool and refasten, tight.

Re-connect the negative cable and try to start her again.

I Don't Think The Battery Is The Issue....

Tom,
I don't think the problem lies with the battery because before I went back and lined up the cams it cranked like normal but wouldn't start. The starter wasn't touched at all and I haven't been having any problems with the starter before this. I still think it has something to do with my turning the camshafts to get the lined up with the timing marks. Everything else is doing as it should so we shall see what else is giving me drama all the connection are reconnected and belts are tight and firm. This is a learning experience though and I willing to tackle most things now with some back up. :)
