Im going to school right now for ford and was talking to one of my teachers about the shos and the 3rd gens cam failures. He said its to bad they didnt put the 3.4 in the all aluminum taurus,I was like WTF?He told me when the third gen was first being built, they made a handfull of third gens that were all aluminum, well the body panel anyway. He said that thats what they were training aids that ran and drove and ford was very strict about everything on the car,if there was a problem you could not tear anything apart at all.If there was a problem it went back to the engineers and they were to "inspect it".Has anyone ever heard of this?Hes a very smart guy and I dont see why he would make it up but you never know.I cant even imagine what an aluminum taurus would weigh,im guessing not much.It sure would be nice to find one of these if they did exist!

Ford made a GEN2 Sable from all aluminum and installed a 3.2 SHO drivetrain in them. I remember Car and Driver testing one and it was much quicker than the MTX SHO and Mustang since it weighed 400lbs less. I saw one a few years later at a LA AutoShow. UCSB installed a hybrid power plant in it. I asked them if I could buy when they were done and they said the contract under which Ford gave them the Sable was to return it to Ford and could not be sold.

They should have just polished the aluminum and not painted it.. that would've saved a few pounds also.. to bad they're all crushed.. or, in some ford CEOs private garage.. grr
