My Air bag light is flashing the disabled code(again) and the horn simultaneaously has become inoperative. I was wondering if there was a TSB or anything on this issue, as I have seen it on other cars before. The last time it happened, I ignored it until the light stopped flashing and the horn suddenly worked again.

I'm suspecting a bad harness in the steering wheel or cowl because the problem occured after I removed the steering column for rack replacement.

But can anyone tell me where the horn relay is? I have two service manuals, neither of which list the horn relay. I went to Ford today and the parts guy found a picture. The arrow that said "Horn Relay" was pointing to the wiring harness for the sunrood motor, in the headliner. :oogle:

Thanks for any info, I will begin the search for the problem tommorow during my lunch hour, but I just wanted to see if this was a common or known issue.

P.S. Can I flash-code this airbag control unit?

The horn circuit and airbag circuits each have something in common - they work through the clockspring assembly that is located underneath the drivers side airbag on the steering wheel. That's where I'd be looking initially.

The horn relay is located behind the dash, driver's side of center, on the LH vertical dash brace. However, it doesn't sound to me like the relay would causing the simultaneous problems you are having with airbag system and horn.

Yes you can flash code the airbag system, here's what the codes mean:

Before doing anything anywhere near the air bag connections disable the air bag. disconnect the negative battery cable, then the positive cable and then wait several minutes for the back-up power to bleed off. you may have a poor connection, but as said above the common denominator is the clockspring.

Exactly what I was thinking. I may have accidentally spun the wheel with the column out, which means I could have damaged the clockspring. Then again, this is a re-occurring problem, but this time it wont go away.

Now if I only had time to look at it...

BTW, thanks for the tip, rangerj. I have removed airbags before, so I do take neccesary precautions. You should see me testing the wiring or removing one, though. I lean back as far as my arms will allow, out of the direct path. You just never know. :corn:
