No, you can, but either you can use the amps or not, you need to get a different wirring harness, one bipasses the amps and one intergrates them into it all. Circuit city should have it in their install area.

It won't hurt a thing if you integrate the amps. Just make sure you get the right harnesses. Go to Circuit and talk to the install guys. They'll get you hooked up.

Yea do what quadmasta said...and tell your friend he's an idiot. I'm sure he probably uses electrical tape to wire his harnesses too...so please stay away from him. If you need help hooking your deck up, post your questions up on here.

I would not use the factory amps. They are not nearly as good as the head units internal amp. You would be wasting your money on the attenuator to make it work. I tried to use the stock amps and it sounded horrible. I put a Pioneer DEH-P9300 in my 95 SHO. After experimenting, I just bypassed the amps and took them out.

What happens is: The factory head unit was designed to work with the factory amp. When you put in an aftermarket unit the high level outputs are too high burning the inputs of the amp.
Factory level outputs are like 8 watts rms. Aftermarket ones can be up to 25 watts rms. I had to pull over on the side of the interstate to put out the burning plugs after installing my Alpine. A unit with lower outputs in the 10 watts rms range wiill be ok. There is also a line out level adjuster you can get at circuit city just be careful these have wattage limit too! headbang

That is why you must buy the attenuator to make it work with the factory amps. With the attenuator it takes some time to dial all 4 channels in. It is not worth it, I just used the internal amp in the head unit.

I tried mine once with the factory amp still hooked up, the amp just shut itself off rather than try and amplify the 22watts rms comming off the head unit. I highly suggest just ditching the amp and gettin the amp bypass harness. The sound will be better and more powerful, and its less crap for you to have to worry about. Easy to setup two, Just pull the plugs outta either side of the amp in the trunk. Plug each unplugged end into the amp bypass harness, voila.
