Has anyone experimented with any aftermarket engine computers? not the superchips and their ilk, but something that is a complete replacement. Almost a year ago, I bought AEM's EEC, thinking that it might be easy to get it to run the SHO engine. Had some trouble witht he car getting totaled, and now I'm looking into getting it working. I think that I can patch up an adaptor harness ( the one i have is set up for a mustang 5.0 EEC-IV) but the things that I'm concerned about are how to approximate fuel curves, timing curves, how the secondaries open, and then exactly how the stock EEC-IV sends the signal to the DIS box and what not. ANY help would be appreciated.

Well, what I was really hoping to find was basic idea of what the stock fuel map looked like and what the ignition curve looked like.

Doesn't the mustang have a Distributor? How are you gonna deal with the DIS system? Run separate coils?

I *THINK* ( please correct me if i'm wrong ) that the DIS module recieved the PIP, SPOUT, and CID signals and selects which coil needs to fire. It however does nothing for the spark advance. So in effect, it basically works as a distributer, with the EEC controling advance.

I believe you are correct sir. As for fuel maps etc, they have to be lingering around somewhere. Josh at SHO NUT performance may be able to help you out since he has just about everything else. And if you really want to go ********, you could always get a halltech. ;)

well, the plan was to go really ********* with the AEM computer. Its a complete replacement computer ( ie remove the EEC-IV ) and supposedly it can do everything and anything. Can't find a website for the halltech, only thing I can find is something about corvettes..

IMO if it were me, I'd dump the AEM and go with a TwEECer RT on a stock X2J PCM. The EEC computer is really a well-designed piece of equipment and it already controls your engine and related subsystems from the factory - why not make use of what's already there and reprogram it to your liking? The tools are now (finally) out there to do so, so why not make use of them? ;)

As for the factory fuel and spark tables, you can view those by downloading a copy of either the SCtuner software here or the TwEECer software here. Note that the existing TwEECer software bundle does not contain copies of the factory V6 SHO images but the SCtuner does - hence you may want to start with the SCtuner demo first and work your way from there. Also of note is that the SCtuner software utilizes a much more graphical GUI than the current rev of the TwEECer software and can help make viewing some of the various fuel and spark tables a bit easier to understand.

If you're looking for some helpful info on the EEC manages spark on a DIS-controlled vehicle, I would recommend that you have a read through Tom Cloud's excellent EEC FAQ write-up found here.

Hope this helps.

Instead of switching to a stand-alone or piggy back computer superchips has come out with superchips custom tuning. Instead of the chips changing information as it is processed by the pcm the pcm will "boot" off of the new chip. Doug at FPS has been playing with this for a few months now and has made some amazing progress. You may want to hit him up for some more answers.

If you can get your friend to set that up for the SHO let me know because he'll have the same problem i'm about to run into. That's basically what the AEM computer is so he'll need the same fuel maps ( i think )
