I am about to change my cps due to an intermittent hard to start problem. The car has a code for loss of crank signel. What I want to know is has anyone had bad luck with aftermarket crank sensors or should I buy a ford one? Also does anyone know the proper way to set the gap on the cps?

Aftermarket ones seem to work fine, you will get one with a ford part # on it from cdn tire FYI. You must gap the sensor with the ring at .030". Make sure you check all 3 places on the vein.

Set the gap at the ring vanes with a typical feeler gauge before you tighten all the mounting screws. It's not like a sparkplug if that's what you're asking. There is a little play in the space between the shutter wheel and the sensor and you measure that. As was stated, aftermarket is fine.

I think I recall a recent thread wherein it was talked about how the prices of aftermarket SHO crank sensors are now approaching what you will pay for a Motorcraft brand unit.
