Has anyone installed 6 1/2" Component Sets on a Gen II SHO? I've never taken the speaker out of the door, but according to crutchfield, the speaker should be 6 1/2".
The component set I'm going to get has 1" Tweets, can those be flush mounted on the Sail panel? If not, any other good place to mount it w/o a whole lot of labor work?

I have a 91, but im pretty sure 89-95 and maybve after have 6-1/2"s in the door. (You know there is an audio section of the forum) As for the compoment speakers, that will probably require some labor...

the speakers in the door are 6.5" they are mounted in plates so the instalation is easy for them. as for the tweaters they require alot of werk. first off running the wires into the door becomes a real pain on the drivers side due to how the tube between the door and body is setup. Also the tweeters will not flush mount in the sail due to the metal of the door being to close however you could prolly cut it out if you had a dremel or sumthing like that. I cut a hole in my door panel below that and the sound reflects off of the dash and sounds pretty good still.

Did you just cut a 3/4" hole right on the door panel to house the tweeter or something. Boy... I was hoping I could flush mount the tweet right on the sail panel... that would be awesome!

I would recommend surface mounting them with a swivel mount just below the woofers in the door and just a little further forward on the door. Using a swivel mount will be easier, you can aim them back towards you, will be out of the way and will sound better.

Also, make sure your 6.5" woofers aren't too deep. That can cause problems. I believe the max depth is 2 5.8"?? Check Crutchfield.

Are we able to do a flush mount on the location you specified? I just prefer flush over the surface mount as it looks much nicer.

The problem is what do you want, to sound nice or look nice? There isn't a location on the door that would be primary to flush mount. The best sound would be to have the tweeter aimed toward you. As respects swivel mounting in the location I mentioned earlier, the looks aren't important because it will be well out of sight.

Both, actually... The tweets will be firing towards the 2 fronts seats for best imaging! Swivel/Surface mount on the door looks rather odd!? There must be a better location to mount these.... maybe the dash...

For best sound quality you want the tweeters at ear level. Always install your woofers in door panels as in the kick panels (near feet I assume) is not good. I put my front tweeters in pillar above my gauge pod. In the rears I put the tweeters right behind the rear quarter windows at head level facing slightly forward.

I would much rather have both drivers together than to separate that much. Of course, now we're getting technical to the point where it's overkill for the casual listener.

When I get around to it. My friend still has my MB quart set. I was planing on mounting the tweeters under a set of those Mach grills from a newer Taurus. Still need to figure out how to mount them up. My last SHO I mounted a set of Polks but they just had a bolt down tweeter that I pulled the plastic and ran them on to. Looked alittle better on the 93 as the parts were black and so what the interior. Didn't want to do that with the Grey interior in the 94. Just worried it will look out of place.

What about a set of coax speakers? Unless you're really into high quality sound and plan on winning a trophy at IASCA, I wouldn't bother with a component set. I have 2-ways in my stock door location and I'm satisfied with it. If you must have separates for proper soundstaging, the tweeter and woofer should be in the kick panel(right next to your feet).
