Got this response form a custom gasket manufacturer about the head gaskets for a V8 SHO. Didn't ask the price....

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Me: I have a 1997 Ford Taurus SHO with the 3.4L V8 motor. Ford has
discontinued the head gaskets.

Can these be custom made?

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Them: Paul,

We do offer a head gasket for that motor, part numbers:

H2743043F & H2744043F

However I would suggest checking a few of the dealerships to see if they have any stock inventory in these gaskets.

All these are out of the inventory system already?

Wonder if Cometic can help with locating a source for bolts?

...so you can get a markup? If all Paul needs to do is setup a group buy, what legwork is there for you to do?

Hey I want no part of group buys. I was just letting the community know that there are alternative sources for parts.

Be my guest and get more aftermarket parts for the G3 SHO. :salute:

Personally, I'm skeptical that they have them. I've been wrong before, but since the gaskets were only D/C'd about a year ago, and up until the past few months were still available, I can't fathom any company making a run of such a low-demand set of gaskets this soon (if ever).

FWIW, there are a ton of upper gasket sets out there. Not in dealer inventory, but there are several hundred that I was made aware of several months ago when the new short blocks started showing up.

It's just a matter of putting in the effort. Personally, I don't have a need and don't expect to, but even if I do I can get gaskets tomorrow.

Mike, if you guys don't mind doing the legwork, I say go for it! :thumb:

It would be my guess that they have them in a CAD file and not any actually manufactured. I contacted these people about a year ago and they may have done some preliminary work. Hench the reply they gave about looking for OEM ones first.

I know for a fact there are dealer issued "head sets" available. They told me this when I tried to purchase just the gaskets, and IIRC, it is only $100 or so more than just the Head gaskets.

Yes that would be the entire engine gasket sets. Last time I checked they were over $700. The don't include the crank seals either.

Someone that has looked into this more recently should come by and chime in soon, but IIRC these have been pretty difficult to find for some time now, and your best bet if you want something not from a salvage yard is to get some gasket material and cut out one to the pattern of the old one you removed.

The recent post above is about valve cover gaskets even though the title at the top is head gaskets. VC needs those formed ones. Unless someone has developed an alternative that works. I'd be real happy about that.
