About a month ago I happened upon a 1990 Taurus Sho sitting in a front yard, looking like it needed a home. No bumpers, wheels or side skirts, and 121k, upon talking to the owner I found out that it had been parked for the last 5 years due to the 'transmission going out' because his girlfriend did not know how to drive a stick. I got the car to my shop and discovered the linkage was broken at the base of the shifter, and it would turn over, but not start. When I began to tear into the motor for the 60k I discovered a hole the size of my fist burned through the air filter, obviously backfired. Now my questions are..
1) What things besides the 60k should I service as a result of the long sitting time.
2) Does a backfire damage any of the sensors?
3) I have a good mechanical background (I'm an automotive sunroof installer) and have done all the work on my current tauruses. Could I adjust the valve lash and replace the shims safetly? Is there a guide other than shotimes's?
4) Is it possible to get a rod shifter from a later model sho and modify it to fit, or do I need a kit?
Thankyou...
