So within the next week or two I'm going to be ordering up my struts, springs and mounts. I'm going with Monroe SensaTrac struts and Moog springs. The question that I have is this...

I plan on cutting 1 coil up front and probably 1/2 a coil in the rear (as this seems to be a popular setup). When I order the strut mounts, should I order the adjustable mounts for up front or would a standard mount work ok? I know I'm going to have to get it aligned after the installation and I'm not sure if I would need the adjustable mount to compensate for the lower stance. Any advice?

I rode with 1.5 coils cut in the front and with just 1 coil cut (two sets of springs obviously). Once the set cut 1.5 coils settled (a year or two) it was too low for my liking, so i bought another set and only cut one coil. I'm happy.

All that to say is with the 1.5 cut coils I needed adjustable front mounts, with the 1 coil cut i don't.

I also have my plates drilled out.

Are your plates drilled?

I HATED the quality of the adjustable mounts, they are crap. IMHO.

Thanks guys. Doug - not to sound totally ignorant, but what exactly do you mean when you say that your plates are drilled?

The plates on the strut towers are spot-welded in place from the factory. By breaking or drilling out these welds, you gain some room for adjustment.

I have the exact same setup that your talking about. I opted to do adjustable from shosource because in the long run its easier/faster to get your alignment done with them plus shosource are the best and nice guys. They'll take care of you

Forgot to mention - I'd recommend the adjustable mounts. With the plates loose, they may be able to set the alignment just fine, but if you ever need to remove the strut assembly for any reason, you will lose your alignment. With the adjustable mounts, you can leave the plates secured to the towers, which will give you the ability to remove and reinstall the strut assembly without losing your alignment.

If you aren't lowered, there no reason for adjustable mounts. But if you decide to not listen to anyone here, and get some, I'd recommend the Moogs over the Ingalls.

I'm probably going to be cutting 1 to 1 1/2 coils in the front and 1/2 to 1 coils in the rear, so it will be lower. Just wasn't sure if it was enough to require the adjustable mounts.

I have Koni's and Eibach's. I cut 1 coil front and rear which is what you might want. I have an atx, hence my car would drop more than yours would. I could go another 1" lower in the front, but that's me.

Both cars have Koni and Intrax. Difference? Mine is an auto, so yeah, it drops down a bit more.

Heed this advice. I have the adjustable Ingalls from SHOSource on mine (Koni / Intrax) and I dislike them. I might switch mounts when it gets warm this spring.

He says they are causing the noise he has on the right front. His alignment is also way off in a short amount of time, but I don't know if that is an issue with the mounts or not.

Sam, are you using the Ingalls mounts? I know you track your car so you would stress your suspension much more than I would with my DD.

Since I just talked to him about this yesterday, I will answer. He is running shosource camber/caster plates with the articulating bearing.

Sam I dislike them because of the groaning noises they are causing when steering. Sounds like the mounts are rubbing on the strut towers but I won't know for sure until I take them back out in the next few weeks. Also, since doing my strut job I've had an alignment, which has since been knocked way off. The car pulls hard to the left, real hard. I'm not sure if the strut mounts didn't hold the alignment or if it's another issue, but the alignment was perfect after last being done and I know everything was torqued correctly as I did it myself. Good thing this car has the lifetime :)

I'll report back in a few weeks when I've pulled the front end apart; I've been meaning to do it to trace the noises I have but ya know, it's been cold
