I have keyless entry on my 91 MTX(number pad). I was wondering if I could get a key fob to work with it. I have Keyless entry module from the trunk of a 94 ATX. I thought about swapping them but they are different and have different connectors. Is this swap possible? I have no wiring diagrams so I am in the dark on the subject.

Thanks for any advice.

I guess no one has done this? Anyone have a wiring diagram of the keyless entry system for a 91 MTX and 94 MTX, so I can compare and see if it is workable?

Thanks

you'll have to upgrade to a 93+ unit to have the keyfob. i did it on m 91. its fairly easy but you have to rewire the connections as the 93 unit has different plugs.

Ford didn't start adding(if my memory serves me right) the key fobs on the SHOs until the 93' models. And then, you only got on key fob from the factory. Ford Accessories did offer a remote entry/anti-theft system that you could add to the 92 and earlier models, but I doubt that it would still be available today.

Ford actually had a dealer installed key fob for the gen1's. It is very rare and I have never actually seen it myself except for in a ford brochure.

That's what I was referring to with:

You will need the wiring harness pigtail from the 94 so you can do some splicing. You will also need wiring diagrams for both cars so that you can get all of the wires in the right places. With basic electrical knowledge, you should be able to do it in an afternoon.

Looking through my documents, I still have an excel file with all of the pinouts and wire colors and basic instructions on how to do it. I'm not sure if I can, or how to attach an excel document, otherwise I could probably convert it into a jpg and upload it to photobucket.... And I'm not sure of who to give credit for it either... someone took alot of effort to put it together (and it wasn't me!). If no one knows how to upload it as is, I'll convert it later tonight and post it up....

I'm interested in it. That would be great if you could get that up.

I tried converting it to a PDF and a txt, but both said they 'exceeded the limit,' even though they are well under the listed limit when you click on attachments. Is there an easier way to convert it to a jpg, other than printing it out and scanning it as a picture?

Here it is. I printed the excel file, scanned it, resaved as a jpeg and uploaded it to my photobucket. You should be able to 'save as' and zoom in on your own computer. I have to give credit to Gil Shoemaker for making this file (I found his name as the 'author' of the document)! I haven't done this myself yet, but I assume that even though it says '92 connector,' that it will apply to Gen I as well. Enjoy!

I was about to link my old post as well. This is a fairly simple job, but you need the pigtails that plug into the RKE from the newer car. You also need the black antenna that runs down the harness.

I installed a switch on the module as well, to make reprogramming super easy. All in all it took me about 2 hours, it could be done a lot faster if I did it again. Just get a bunch of butt connectors and get to splicing!

I also didn't hook up the horn or park lights, as those both annoy me.

FYI, I believe it was the late great Gil Shoemaker who originally did this mod and made up that spreadsheet.

Credit where it's due. :)
