I have finally uploaded the 45 pictures that were taken during the 60K service on Adam Varney's (ACV1081) red 1993 ATX SHO performed on December 27-29, 2001. I apologize that the photos aren't in the order of the service, but it was going to take too long to sort them with the tool available through the host site.

Scott...how did you clean the lower intake ports without getting any of the crud down on the intake valves? I've been wanting to do this, but I couldn't figure out a way to keep the crud from falling down there.

To clean the intake ports, I first soak an old and sacrificable terrycloth towel with intake cleaner and use a rubber gloved finger to swab out the worst of the deposits. Most of the crud sticks to the cloth. I spray as little as possible intake cleaner into the ports. If there is any liquid that gathers on the closed valves, I use a chopstick and towels to soak it up.

I got to see the pictures. Very nice. That is an amazing sunset. Are they normally like that or is it a rare site to see?

I found that PhotoIsland stopped the visits after 65 yesterday. I am honored that so many people cared to see the images of Adam's SHO. Yes, his engine was clean. It didn't have any major oil or coolant leaks, but it did have the expected grunge in the expected areas. To place the before and after photos of the same part together, you would get a better idea of the detailing I perform on the engine when I have it apart.

The Varneys were here in north Dallas over the period of December 27-29. The weather cooperated with daytime air temperatures in the 60s ad 70s. Whenever there are a few low level clouds to the west, the sunsets make you take a long look and give thanks to be alive.

Thankfully,
Scott

SDPATT....where quality is job 1! Ah the pictures look all too familiar. He has some minor cam lobe wear, is that correct, Scott? Engine looks immaculate, however. Good job as always!!

Regarding the image of the cam lobes, the only areas of the lobe face that exhibited that appearance were the non-contact areas on the round face away from the eccentric lobe. It could be a metallurgical condition, excessive oxidation from lack of anti-rust additives in the oil (He used a local brand before switching to Castrol GTX), or a combination of both. The wear face of the cam lobes appeared to be in fair shape, but there were distinct, circular wear grooves in the center 1/2" on many of the shims. We replaced almost all of the shims and now I have a growing collection of shims that will never be used again.

hehe, I, too, am a fellow Adam. And I also plan to meet up with Scott do have my approaching 100k service done, in addition to anything that wasn't performed on the previous 60k service. Fortunately, I won't have to drive as far as ACV did!
