A few months ago I went to the track to do the 1/4. My foot was planted on the floor the whole way down the track, unfortunately when I let off the pedal stayed down and the car kept going. Hitting the brakes barely slowed me down and I had to slam my foot on the gas pedal to loosen it. I thought it was an isolated thing. Earlier today it did it again, merging onto a busy freeway almost causing me to rear end someone. Then tonight I was cruising at 50mph, I let off the gas for an approaching light and it stayed at 50mph. I didnt not have the cruise control on, and I hit the Off button a couple times just to be sure, car kept holding at 50 with my foot off the pedal. Once again slammed my foot on the pedal and it let go. Is this a screw on the pedal thats too tight?? Throttle cable sticking? Maybe even Cruise control malfunction? Please help if this has happened to you....

Check your cruise control cable. It is routed through a guide with a tubular piece of plastic on the side pointing towards the passenger side fender. That tubular piece can break but still stay in the housing. It will pop out and stick on the lip of the housing and cause your revs to stay at about 3k rpms. It will usually pop back into the housing when you hit the throttle so you wont see it when you look under the hood.

Chris, when Joe did you're rings, did he clean your intake out at all? I wonder if maybe your TB is gummed up and thats causing it to stick. An other thing I have heard of is people have had the floor mat creep up and get on top of the pedal. Make sure its pulled back away from the pedal. Other than that, check the cables out to make sure they aren't binding somewhere.

Check the black piece hooked up to the throttle body. My accelerator was sticking once and i removed that black plastic piece (choke?) and it stopped. Hopefully this helps. DOn't drive it till it's fixed.

Man...happened to me too...on the highway doing 65mph, then 70mph, then 80mph before i put her in neutral, turned her off (making sure not to lock the steering wheel) and coasted her off an off ramp. Think it was the floor mat but gonna check everything out! Remember, neutral, **** the car, and coast.

Turn the key from "on", but don't "park" the key - your steering wheel can lock if you turn the key all the way to where you can pull it out. I had to do that on the highway when I blew a cam seal out once - was doing about 75, 3rd lane, saw the NASCAR oil smoke behind me & turned the key off, coasted to the side of the road.

Also had the throttle stick on me a few times. One car was the floor mat, one car was the TB coolant bypass result on a COLD day. Throttle plate stuck in place a couple of times that trip.

Reprinted from an earlier post:

Search: Sticking throttle cable

To find what is possibly sticking in the the throttle linkage, rotate the throttle shaft by hand to check the throttle itself for free movement. If not there, clean and lubricate the throttle body and throttle shaft. Next check the cable. Rotate the throttle fully open by one hand and push and pull the cable with the other hand. You should be able to hear the gas pedal flopping inside the car. If the cable moves easily, you then need to check the gas pedal for free motion. If not, find the restriction and lubricate the pivot points or properly position the floor mat. It has to be one of the three parts of the throttle linkage: pedal, cable or throttle shaft.

I had the same problem. I took the cover off of the throttle and there was a big long black bolt sticking out of the manifold way to far. I don't know what the the bolt is, but it was causing the rotating mechanism to stick on the bolt therefore not letting off of the gas. I screwed the bolt in and it cleared up the problem. Hope this helps thumbs_u shrug
