Would anyone have any idea why the display on my 94's AC Temp control unit would cut out. When it goes out the AC also cuts out. It will do this while driving and then mysteriously come back on. Any ideas or sugestions would be appreciated.

head unit is dead... you can get another one with broken buttons for cheap and switch your good face onto the good climate control

Not so fast! shoot It might not be a broken headunit. Mine did this and later the starter went out. I noticed when I was replacing the starter that one of the posts on the starter that the wires bolt onto was loose inside the starter. I replaced the starter and no more problems with the Climate Control cutting out. It also fixed a problem where the ABS light would come on sometimes. There is also a test for the climate control that you can run. I don't remember the details but you should be able to search or it in the search menu of this forum.

KYSho,

Thanks for the help my ABS light has also been going off intermittently and my starter was changed about 3 months ago. I'm will check to see if one of the cables is working loose. This board is great!!

here ya go

ELECTRONIC CLIMATE CONTROL - SELF DIAGNOSTIC TEST

The control assembly will detect electrical malfunctions occurring during the self test.

1. Make sure the coolant temperature is at least 120F (49C).

2. To display error codes, push the OFF and FLOOR buttons simultaneously and then the AUTOMATIC button within 2 seconds. The test may run as long as 20 seconds, during which time the display will be blank. If the display is blank for more than 20 seconds, consult the No Error Code Found Diagnosis and Testing chart.

3. The Self Diagnostic Test can be initiated at any time with the resulting error codes being displayed. Normal operation of the system stops when the Self Diagnostic Test is activated. To exit the self test and restart the system, push the COOLER button. The self test should be deactivated before powering the system down.

ERROR CODE KEY

Code Condition

1.. Replace control head
2.. Blend door problem
3.. In-car temp sensor open or short
4.. Ambient temp sensor open or short
5.. Sunload sensor short
6.. 888 Test complete - no failures (all segments on)

No Problem! But don't just check for loose wires. On mine it was a post inside the starter that was loose. You might need to take the wires off the starter make sure the post that the wires bolt onto are tight inside the starter. Mine was loose and grounding out inside the starter.
