Need some help. My AC, defrosters and heat are not working at all along with the display which is dead. When I started my car smoke came out of the vents for about 10 seconds then it stopped. I take it something shorted out. Was wondering if anyone else has had this happen and if so what needs to be replaced and are the parts available.

Thanks for reading and for any help.

Year?
Manual or Auto AC?
Is it the blower that stopped?

Need quite a few more significant details....

Woops...sorry about that. It's a '92 5 speed manual and I really don't know what you mean by Auto or Manual AC but there is an "Auto" button on the dash. The entire system is dead. AC, heater, fan and defrosters are all totally dead along with the display which shows the temperature inside and outside. Like I said when I started the car the AC was already on but then it cut off and smoke came out of all of the dashboard vents for about 10 seconds. It smelled like something was burning so that's why I'm thinking something may have shorted out.

That would be the EATC (Electronic Automatic Temperature Control).

Check fuse 9, 16, & 17 in the instrument panel fuse box. Any of them blown?

If smoke came out of the vents I would start with the blower control module or the BCM. If you open the the glove box past the catch it will be located on the left side of the black plastic housing. It has a black flex hose and a wiring harness plugged into it. If you search for "BCM" you will find pics of it on the forum.

Thanks. I'll look into it. I did what you suggested and did a search on BCM and still couldn't find a pic, but it shouldn't be to hard to find with the description you gave. I did read some of the previous threads on BCM and the Blower Motor and no one else seem to have any smoke coming out of their vents, but maybe my car is special. LOL. If there are any more suggestions I could definitely use the help.

Ok for those who experience a problem with the AC, Defrosters & Heat all not working along with the unit display burning out after smoke comes out your vents here's what happened.

The BCM (Blower Control Module) shorted out sending a power surge to the Control Module that's in the dash. This is what burned out sending smoke through the vents. Both need to be replaced because the bad BCM would short out again blowing out the Control Module. Hopefully this will help someone out in the future.
