ac lines

well i didnt worry about this to much before since it was cold but now that it is getting hot out i think it is time to address the problem. it seems that when replacing a heater core the previous owner cut the ac lines because he could not get them loose from the condenser. he seems to of left enough room about 2-3 inches from the connector that the lines could possibly be re-welded with a mig or tig. is this a bad idea to re-weld them and should i get new lines or is this a possibility. also what damage could have occured with open lines going back to the ac. the lines going into the condensor have duct tape on them so i assume that part is still good and dirt free. any suggestions.

You'll need new.
But I'm unsure (by your description) if the evap core was cut or the lines going to it were.

the core is fine. it is the lines that are cut. there is about 2-3 inches oc a/c line still connected to the evap core. if i take the fittings off the evap will be like new or original. the evap wasnt cut.

You will need a new orfice tube, and dryer/accumulator. Both of things need to be replaced since the system was open anyway. They should run you around $150 for both. They are simple to replace yourself - add the proper amount of oil and go get the system evacuated and charged and you should be good.

Just today I added more freon to my system.
But upon engine rpm increase (more pressure I guess) I noticed a leak somewhere on the line by the coolant overflow tank.
Looks like I'll be replacing some line(s) also.

The connection of the lines to the evaporator core, and other connections, are held in place by "garter springs". Often the springs get rusted in their holder and make it very difficult to take the lines apart. Spray this area with a lot of penetrating oil and if necessary use a tool like a 90 degree pick and clean out the rust. Once the springs have enough room to expand the lines will come out. When replacing the lines use new "O" rings AND get a set of new garter springs. Clean the rust out of the connections also. I coat the springs and the holders with a light coating of silicone grease. Be careful not to get grease in the lines.
