2. Unplug ac clutch connector
3. Remove freon from vehicle

It isnt only the parts and labor that cost.

Anytime an AC system is opened up for repair or replacement, the system must be properly evacuated. Then it must also be recharged.

Evacuation is NOT cheap.

do you honestly bring ur vehicle in to pay for evacuation charges?

Recharge cost is cheap as long as u are somewhat mechanically inclined
It costs approximately $35 for the gun with all the freon and a 4 oz can of oil

Yep.

We only get one ozone layer.

i suppose if u look at it that way then yes, i too would bring my vehicles to have it done
but i'm too poor to bring my car into the stealership to have this serviced performed, so i just do it myself

Where is your vacuum pump? You need to vac it out for a while to remove all air and moisture before adding any freon. If not your system will be toast.

Depends on what year your SHO is. If it is '93 or before you will need to have it retrofitted from R12, to R134a. Also, is it an ATX or an MTX?

How did the compressor fail? If it locked up you will need to have the complete system flushed and a new accumulator and orfice.

it's a 93' atx that has been converted to r134a. it hasn't locked up yet, but it's making a nasty grinding and chirping noise.
