This is on my 95 ATX. I noticed with the AC on you can hear a whining noise, you have to turn off the stereo and listen or you can't hear it. It does not occur at idle, and changes with engine speed. On the freeway I can not hear it, but I don't know if it stops or if there is too much wind noise. It is only with the AC on. I did a clutch, coil and pulley last year, as well as had it checked for leaks and recharged last year, all done at an AC shop. The AC is very, very cold, I just am a little worried about the noise.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I don't know if I can help you, but I posted in the maintenance section a few days ago about a whining noise in my 95ATX, My Post, maybe it will be of some use to you, what kind of whine are you hearing?

Not a loud one as you described in your post, but definatley there, it's kinda like the one you get in the old car radios, goes up and down with my engine speed.

BIGSHOMIKE,

Try listening to the various bearings with a mechanics stethescope (Auto Zone $10). There is the A/C pulley bearing, the alternator, the idler and/or belt tensioner, water pump, and power steering pump.

The load put on the belt by the A/C may be causing a defective bearing to "whine". This is just a hunch, but thats the best I can do without actually hearing the noise. rangerj
