Ebay or a salvage yard is your best options. Not too many of us FSHOC guys/gal(s) have gen3s.

Why do you think you need a new compressor?

In addition to what Chris said, also check SHOclub.com classifieds.

Abridged Version - I brought the car in to Matthew Currie in Venice. I worked for Ford for years after college in Warranty Admin - I know the tricks. I made a specific list of what the concerns where and what I wanted done. Replaced all plugs and wires along with 1 coil pack. I had just bought my wife an 06 Explorer and asked for small discount on parts. They got me for 196.00 on the coil pack.

On the AC I was specific, INTERMITTENTLY blows warm and does not recover. This happens under a moderate load, not even heavy acceleration. They called me and told me it had the wrong freon and was overcharged. I asked if they were positive. YUP. 4 days Later, same condition. I was out of town for a while and finally got it back in the show last week. Took them 3 days to duplicate the condition which is unreal to me. Called me, asked me if I was sitting down and told me the clutch and coil where heating up and slipping. Fine, I knew it was more than the recharge, but 900.00? Add to which I know on the coil I was overcharged suggested retail because I followed up with contacts I still have at Ford. After some research it looked cheaper / more reasonable to just replace the compressor and recharge the system. I just want to get the high and low pressure switches checked first.

Why do you ask? Have you any other thoughts?

Chris and FSHOC Members - If you are interested or even entertained by the idea of a GIII SHO I just looked at one in St. Pete Today, 98, 78K, Single Owner. New Plugs and Coils and New Transmission put in under Warranty. Loaded for 5k. For sale and on eBay - Repair Shop selling for a friend so he wouldn't trade and I didn't have a spare 5k.

I don't know much about A/C problems, but it doesn't exactly sound like a bad compressor to me. Check the clutch gap and pressures. You can temporarily bypass the pressure switch with a paperclip if that helps diagnosing. Have you tried doing a search here on the forums? I think you should be able to find some information to help you out, even if it applies to Gen I/II cars.

$900 is not the right charge. The compressor is only available in reman version and Ford retail is $348. Nick and myself can get them for $168 with our discount.
Also there is a core charge unless you have your origional compressor ready to swap out.

Also, I get over to the Venice/Sarasota/Englewood towns about once a month for a weekend...you just missed me though :)

Sounds like clutch gap. When it starts to blow warm and the compressor is not spinning, take a broom handle or something similar and lightly press on the side of the clutch. If it engages, the gap is off and needs to be reset using the appropriate shims. Gap should be .014-.033" all the way around.

Chris and Nick - your input is invaluable - I appreciate it. I am on hold for a couple of days as I may have a buyer on West Coast and then I would grab the white one for sale with less miles in St. Pete. Chris, I don't mind paying at all, otherwise I wouldn't have purchased the car, but getting the SHOshaft Dance from dealers is old and I have had the car 2 months. Where are you located? My wife and son are taking a trip to Russian (her home) next week and will be gone for a month so I don't mind travelling for service. Mark

I am over in the Melbourne/Palm Bay area. It seems most mechanics see these cars and right off the bat overcharge everything. I mainly work on Gen1s and 2s but do all sorts of work on other cars.

If you really want some work done, join us in Jacksonville May 20th for SHOGIRL1994's b-day (Tara). Nick, myself and anyone else will be more than happy to lend a hand.
