Hello Everyone.

I "use" to have a '97 SHO back in 2000/2001. It all ended when I have a "fender bender" in it in June '01 in Houston, TX. My SHO was totaled and I do not remember having a wreck in the sedan. It happened the night Tropical Storm Allison hit Houston back in June '01. Right now, I have 3 vehicles. One is a '22 Mazda CX-30 Carbon Edition that I'm about to put up for sale. The other two are both 2002 Mazda Millenia S, when have a supercharged engine. One of the two is a parts car for the other.

So, when I sell the CX-30, I want to get an SHO to replace it. I'm looking into a 2nd gen, or, maybe another 3rd gen. I'm sure if I get a 3rd gen, I will have a lot of people frustrated with me for wanting to get another one of those sedans.

Now, my main question is, is it hard to find parts for the SHO's these days? Also, what are the basic updates people are doing to thier SHO? I know I added a pulley to the SHO I had and it made a big difference in the Performance.

Thank you,
Stephen

Lucky to make it out of that one. Parts are hard to find, one thing that's unobtainium for a V8 right now is the front valve cover gasket, unless someone wants to sell one they've stashed away. I don't think most are doing basic updates, just trying to keep them on the road at this point.

Well, I work at an O'Reilly Store and have been with the company for almost 7 years. I have a good amount of contacts. My sister is married to a Ford Dealerships Parts Manager while she does commercial sales for one of the largest Ford Dealerships here in Texas. My family will never get out of the Ford market, except for me since I'm a big Mazda person for almost 20 years.

What pulley?
From what I know, the '96 to '99 SHO has about 8 to 10 pulleys on it. Since my wreck was back in '01, having a TBI from the wreck, I do not remember which pulley was changed. I'm sure a belt was changed as well. I might have been the "Crank Pulley" that was changed.

Just wondering what pulley gave you a big increase in performance.

There was a company outside of Houston that made an aluminum underdrive crank pulley for the V8 SHO. I had one. It was a poor design where the outer pulley was splined to the inner hub by 4 pins. The inner hub slipped into the outer pulley from the front. Four holes were drilled and pins were driven into the assembly to prevent rotational slippage. A snap ring was installed on the outer face to hold it all together. The pins would eventually wallow the holes and the pulley would spin on the hub.

Rough drawing not to scale.

I had been living in Houston when I got mine. What I can remember, that pulley helped greatly with acceleration power to the SHO I had. Once I got that pulley put on, not much longer then that wreck happened to the SHO.
