I came across what I think could be a serious problem with my SHO. There is a small amount of oil resting down in the spark plug chambers. Anybody know what this could be? Is it serious? There isn't alot but it's enough to somewhat scare me.

The total engine oil isn't going down but it seems as though it would with this small leak.

Any input on my problem would be much appreciated.

AGGGHHHHHHH! End of the world! :D

Very common problem... Fix it and replace your plugs and wires at the same time. While in there you may as well do the valve adjustment.

The part number for the gaskets is Felpro: VS50378R

Available from www.midwestsho.com (another cheap plug)

Haha, no, everything is fine, your car is alright. Well, it sounds like it is need of a 60k, but your car is not going to implode :) . There are gaskets that are installed onto the valve covers that seal the plug wells from the heads, and these gaskets dry rot and start to leak. These gaskets come with a Fel-Pro gasket set you can purchase at your local auto parts store for anywhere between $70 and $90. You probably want to know what a 60k is, so I'm going to tell you. The 60k service includes a bunch of standard maintenence. For a COMPLETE 60,000 mile service, you should replace the:

Timing belt
spark plugs
spark plug wires
front main seal
accesory belts
crank position sensor
cam position sensor
water pump
thermostat
single wire temperature sender
lower radiator hose

and be sure to adjust your valve clearances.

Hope that helps!

i am in the middle of my 60k and have found that my gaskets were still fine, however, the spark plugs were the wrong kind/size, allowing oil to leak in

The only path for oil to enter the spark plug wells is past leaking plug well seals at the valve cover to head interface. That is unless you have a severly leaking valve cover bolt head and a poor fitting spark plug boot that are allowing oil to literally flow into the well. You would see this as it would be externally visible.

Where in Texas are you located?
