1990 SHO, 220,000+ miles.

When I picked this car up the other day it only ran good under very light acceleration. Any touch of the throttle would send it into a horrible stutter. Pulled the plugs out only to find some nasty old looking Motorcrafts that were around a .070 gap. I Threw some new plugs/wires on, cleaned the MAF, and now it pulls nice and hard in the mid range, but it still spits around really bad down low and up high in the RPMs. I actually noticed a few times in 2nd/3rd that it started sputtering instantly right when the secondaries opened up.

Any ideas? I was just going to run some Sea Foam and injector cleaner in it tomorrow along with some better gas. I need this thing running good ASAP so I can start beating the crap outta it.

To recap, it ran horrible at any RPM under load before plugs/wires, and now it actually runs good in the mid range after plugs/wires. I have checked the intake ground. Looks good. Each plug wire is also on nice and tight.

I know these threads always pop up, but I usually don't get stumped like this.

the injector cleaner is a very good idea.

also, check out the tps - a bad tps can cause those symptoms.

I guess I didn't even think about the TPS being a possible issue under WOT. Thanks.

I'm grabbing some injector cleaner this morning. We'll see what happens. I was lying in bed lastnight and pretty much telling myself that it almost has to be an injector issue, especially since it's demanding more fuel in the areas that I'm having sputter.

Update:

Grabbed a coil off some random SHO at the local U-Pull-It. Runs awesome now. This, of course, was after I tried pretty much everything you could think of in hopes of finding the problem. I should have known this was the issue all along. Thanks for the help rubydist and 86si.
