I think I need a new motor mount/mounts.

I just bought my SHO and noticed the passenger side of the intake manifold has a shiny rubbed off spot on it, which according to shotimes is a sign of a motor mount problem.

To test and see how bad it is I covered the shiny spot w/ a little bit of white paint (did this 4 days ago. Now most of the white paint is rubbed off, which is a sure sign of a motor mount.

Now, I am not as mechanically inclined as Id like to be, I am 17 and this is my 2nd car and I am really trying to learn to do troubleshooting/maintenance. So, which engine mount will I need to replace? Where is the engine mount located? (I got under the car one day, in the snow, and didnt see it right away and got too cold) How long should I go before this needs replacing (money is the only thing stopping me)

Appreciate it!!

You should adress it asap. Be really easy on her. I know that just the front motor mount is a pretty easy job (Thats the one that breaks first) You just gotta jack up the engine and basically take the old one out, and btw you gotta remove the lower radiator hose, cuz the mount is right next to it. Just make sure you got the tq. settings right. But if your front mount has been broken for a while its prolly a good idea to change your rear mount.

alright, think I can tackle this job on myself being 17, limited knowledge and tools? How long will it take and how hard will it be (an estimation)?

Thanks again

It isn't too bad to replace. However, I have a well-stocked garage including engine hoist, etc. Depending on what you mean by "limited tools", though, the job could be easier or much more difficult. Also, do you have access to a garage?

I have an unheated garage, all Ive got are some ramps, but I could possibly borrow some jacks/jackstands and even a torque wrench. Anything else?

When I did it, the car was on the ground, but I was using an engine hoist to support the engine instead of a jack from underneath. I also used an air ratchet to take the bolts out; this can be done with a regular ratchet though (just takes longer). I would definately get the torque wrench, assuming you can dial it in to the correct torque setting (in other words, try to get a 1/2" drive). As far as any other tools, just an assortment of sockets and wrenches and such will really be all you need.

How the **** did you fit under the car with it on the ground? lol I can barely get a jack under the front of my car with it lowered only about 1".
