Well, randomly yesterday the A/C has been acting up.

My A/C, when I start the car, takes forever to start blowing air. You can hear the compressor click on (and off.. but that's another story). What controls the air to come out?

Question: What controls the airflow and how fast it comes out? Is that the compressor, or something else in the system?

Does the fan work when on the manual setting?
It will come straight on when I start the car and it is already in manual.

But the auto settings are what is messed up. If I turn the car on and it's on auto, it will take a while. But once I turn it over to manual everything then it comes on.

What would be the fix for this? Is it's the EATC?

I never use the AUTO function FWIW. I just run the vent or A/C at a comfortable setting where I can't hear the fan and I'm not over heating.

I'm not sure if this would have anything to do with it. The system comes on.. just does not blow air.

Sounds like nothing is wrong if it comes on "fast" on manual mode.

It waits for the coil to reach a certain temp. before blowing out the air

I think what its doing maybe normal....they designed it this way so it wouldn't blow hot air in your face!

.. the thing is, it's never done it before and if you start the car in auto and then change it to manual and turn the fans on.. it still won't come on.. so I don't think that is it.

I have no idea what's wrong.. doesn't make much since to me.

I was looking at some diagrams.. could the blower motor resistor be bad?

If this is your 97 your talking about then it does not use a blower motor resistor. It uses a fan speed controller. If your blower motor operates on all the speeds when you set it by the EATC then the controller it fine.

-have you checked the relays???
No, but I don't think it would be the relays as it operates fine when it does.
More about this coil.... it makes sense to me.

If I run the car and it's in auto OR Max A/C when I turn it off and I get back in the car within 10-20 minutes, it will pop back on as soon as I start the car. If I don't, it takes a while to start blowing air. So, it makes sense that it could be the coil.

Where is it located, and how do you know if it is bad?

Ah, well guess it's not that then.

If the fan works in manual then the relay is good. If it does not work with the setting on auto then the Remote Climate Control or the Blower Control module may be bad.

Have you ran a self test?

Self Test

NOTE: Intermittent (run time) trouble codes will be deleted after 80 ignition cycles.

The remote climate control module is capable of displaying both self-test faults and intermittent (run time) faults on the integrated control panel. To obtain these codes, perform the following EATC on-board diagnostics test:

On-board diagnostics should be run in ambient temperatures between 10° C (50°F) and 32°C (90° F). Record all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) displayed during diagnostic test mode.

Turn ignition switch to RUN position.

Push both OFF and FLOOR buttons simultaneously, then press AUTO within two seconds.

The test may run as long as 30 seconds while the display will show a dashed line in the center of the display window.

After about 20 seconds, a DTC will appear in the display. Refer to the Diagnostic Trouble Code Index to identify the proper diagnostic procedures.

Just checked it.. 888.. damn. Hoping something popped up so I could fix it.

At least the A/C does work.. just a weird pause before it should turn on...
