a/c problems

well it's starting to get hot and my a/c isnt working in my 91 at all, but before i begin to spend the money, I'll see what you guys think...

I turn the a/c on, not cold what so ever, then my idle drops to about 600rpms and then surges back and forth to normal idle. I also occasionaly get some belt squeaks..

any help would be appreciated

Have you set the idle yet?

AS for the a/c not being cold...
Anyway you can run it by an A/C shop? i would need readings to tell you what the problem is. With out pressure readings, i cant really tell you anything... however, being that it is a 91, and it is on r-12 (assuming) it probably hasnt been serviced. Which right off the bat, would lead me to believe that it is low on Frion. However, i do need the readings to confirm this.
also, is the a/c compressor kicking on and cycling?

pop the hood with the engine on and see if the ac compressor runs with ac on.

yeah the compressor seems to cycle on and off, and the idle drops and raises when it comes on.
