ok i have a 95 atx i have no cold air... it stays hot to about 65 on the temp when it hits 60 it gets somewhat warm. ran the test on it and pulled code 4 which is ambient temp sensor. ive done it several times and one time i managed to pull a code 3 as well which is in car temp sensor...i need some more info on these what could cause these to fail and could their be something other than a bad sensor causing this

A low side-only reading is about as valuable as trying to watch a 3D movie with one eye closed.

In other words, it's too close to useless to be recommended for system analysis.

ok im pretty sure the compresser engages but it kicks on and off... the rpms jump up and down when it shuts on or off. so i was told that low levels of freon could cause that sensor to pull that code 4 is this true i bought a new sensor am putting it o in the morning. or could a short cause this....i hope i dont have to chase one.

the compresor will cycle on and off during normal operation but you may very well have a low level of freon it might just be enough to kick the compresor on

Does your a/c compressor cycle on and off very rapidly? I was told this is a sign of low freon as well. It will cycle on and off during normal operation but if it does it every 2 seconds, it's low. I have a leak in mine and when it's refilled, it doesn't cycle on and off as quickly

ok yes it may last 3 to 5 seconds and kicks back of....so now how to check the levels i took it to valvaline to have them check the levels and they said the couldnt check because the style of ball valve or something like that? and those low levels can throw off that sensor then?

They couldn't check the levels because of the valve style? All 95s had 134a, which is what everything uses now. It should be the same fitting. I believe you can check the pressure with the gauges at the port on the passenger side at the firewall. Those people at Valvoline sound dumb.

If you buy the recharge kit (with the hand held nozzle and a gauge), you can check the low side pressure yourself. That will put an end to the low pressure theory.
If it turns out to be low, you can encourage your compressor to come on by paperclipping or jumping the low pressure switch, and then your system will accept the recharge.
If this does not yield results, then you have to take it for diagnosis.

You are right about that, the sensor is a separate issue.
You may need to get one of them on this forum under "wanted to buy". You could also check to see if yours is unplugged or the wiring needs attention.
I believe that at low temperatures, the compressor is "told" to not come on by these sensors, so that may be your only problem.
Run the test again and see if the sensor is still giving you grief, and resolve that first.

i replaced the sensor about a week ago and it still pulls that code...i bought some freon..and tried that whole method when the compresser kicked on the levels would go lower in the somewhat low and good range but when it kicked off the qauge would read in the red....not sure if i did the paper clip thing right...going to read that thread again. and try again...im think could be the high side presure is throwing it off to..
