Well I bought this car over the Michigan winter and didn't realize the AC didn't work....how much can I expect to get this repaired for? (If I remember correctly...it's VERY expensive)

Would it even be worth the money? And where can I get it done at?

As quoted in another thread this is the breakdown of the AC parts for the SHO. To my knowledge only available from Ford. You might just need a recharge, or have the gap reset on the clutch.

From Mr. Anonymous:

For future reference for anybody looking, here is a list of the A/C parts for the V8 SHO:

Compressor (Compressor ONLY, no clutch/pulley/coil): YC-187 or F6DZ-19703-CB, List $459.98

Clutch/Pulley/Coil Kit (Clutch Hub and Pulley NOT available separately): YB-539 or F6DZ-19D786-AB, List $343.81

Coil Only: YB-540 or F6DZ-19D798-AA, List $146.88

Accumulator and Hose: YF-2766 or F7DZ-19C836-EA, List $160.28

Liquid Line (Complete Assy-Condenser to Evaporator): YF-2655 or F8DZ-19835-BB, List $108.66

Manifold and Tube Assy: 1996 Models: YF-2217 or F6DZ-19D734-B, List $183.48 1997-1999 Models: YF-2502 or F8DZ-19D734-CA, List $189.78

The first part number for each is the Motorcraft A/C Parts part number, and the second number is the Ford Service Parts part number. All of the parts listed are currently still available. The pulley bearing is not available separately from Ford.

For those interested, we always have a few good used compressors on hand for much, much, much less than a new one would cost. <-= (Northeastsho)

Common problems w/ the Gen 3 A/C systems

Possible reasons your A/C isn't working:

1. Clutch not engaging. This means the pulley is spinning, but it won't turn the compressor when the controls are telling it to do so. This can usually be corrected by removing the clutch shim, which strengthens/restores the electromagnetic field enough to make the clutch work again. Occasionally the whole clutch or coil mechanism will need to be replaced at significant expense.

2. Low refrigerant charge. This can be due to normal dissipation of refrigerant (these cars ARE getting old enough that they may need a recharge even though there aren't any substantial leaks in the system) or it could be a sign of a leak that needs to be addressed. Any competent mechanic should be able to pinpoint a leaking component and give you a diagnosis and/or repair estimate.

3. A/C condenser is loaded up with debris. This is frighteningly common as the miles add up. The A/C condenser's fins are very closely spaced, and when they are exposed to road debris (fine gravel, vegetable matter, bugs, trash, etc.) over many miles, the debris begins to significantly choke off your A/C's cooling capacity (not to mention the engine's cooling system!) A fine toothed comb or stiff bristle brush coupled with compressed air can loosen and evacuate a surprising amount of crud from the condenser and radiator--it's just a matter of removing the front bumper cover and taking the time to clean everything up. It's not fun but it's usually necessary sooner or later.

4. Other A/C system component has failed. Take the car to a professional and be ready for a substantial bill. (See post above for specifics)
