I have a 94 SHO 3.2 Auto. What if any other a/c compressors fit this? Where is the best place to get one?

The Nippondenso compressor that is stock with the car is the only one I know that works. It is used in a couple other applications, but not many, and the parts houses know this and list it as the same part. THe problem is the rotational speed. The SHO kills all the Ford compressors like the FS6 used in the normal Taurus.

I have not found any low cost places to buy them. You can pick up a used one if you like to gamble, or by a rebuilt one. I can get them at NAPA for about $380-400, but I think they have a lifetime guarantee if I remember. You might also try rockauto.com

Sorry to not have better news.

Autozone has them for $200 (rebuilt w/clutch). But, they are temperoarily out of stock. I bought mine off ebay from an AC place in Texas. It works perfectly, I can give you their info and you can pick one up from them for around $200 and they will ship it to you. They were also very helpful over the phone in giving me advice and such with the replacement.

Doug

Edit: I have my old one that worked upon removal. I am just getting ready to move to a hot climate and I wanted a new AC system. It is posted in the classified section, let me know if your interested in it or the info for the rebuilt one.

The SHO uses a Nippondenso 10P15F A/C compressor with a six ribbed pulley. There are numerous places that sell rebuilt, remanufactured, and/or new compressors. The prices vary, and most require that you send them your compressor as a "core".

I would buy a compressor locally, that is at your local auto parts store. Then, if you have problems it is easier to deal with someone "local".

You are going to find out that the compressor will NOT be warranted unless you replace the accumulator/dryer and the oriface lines, AND chemically clean out all of the remaining parts (condenser, evaporator, manifold lines, etc.) Then the system has to be properly vacuumed and recharged.

Be sure that you understand the warranty conditions. Some rebuilt compressor suppliers require that the work be done by a certified A/C mechanic, or they will not honor the warranty. Others only require that the work be done properly, and will honor the warranty if you document the work you did, the parts replaced, etc.

The work replacing parts is not all that difficult, and there is no reason you cannot do it yourself. rangerj
