my a/c is shot and wont spin. I want to buy a smaller belt and just bypass the a/c but i dont see any way of doing it without the belt rubing. I performed a search and saw it could be done but i dont see how without taking the pulley off the a/c. HELP!!

i believe the pulley should still spin when the clutch is disengaged on the a/c. but if you want to bypass if you might as well go the extra step and pull the compressor out to lose the weight. then just use a string to measure the size of the belt youll need and an autostore should be able to fix you up. as for leaving it on and using a different belt im not too sure if theres a special method for it, although supposedly removing the pulley is not very difficult. let us know how it goes.

i could not figure out a way to get the pulley off the a/c compressor. I even have a spare a/c compressor that i could swap pullies with as my current one is frozen, thats why i need to bypass it. If you know how to remove the pulley from the compressor that would be of much help.

Mullet,

Remove the nut or bolt that holds the clutch face onto the compressor crankshaft. The face needs to be "pulled" off of the shaft. If you do not have the puller for this, you can use two wood shims and drive them between the clutch face and the pulley.

The pulley is held to the compressor with a snap ring and removed with a pair of "snap ring pliers".

The snap ring is beveled on one side, and the beveled side should face toward you when installed correctly. The pulley may need to be "tapped" on to free it from the compressor, but it is not on with a "press fit".

You may need to remove a few things to get at the snap ring, such as the fender liner and front engine damper. It also helps to remove the compressor mounting bolt so you can angle the compressor to get at the snap ring. You do not have to disconnect any A/C hoses.

Hope this helps, rangerj
