I believe my A/C compressor pulley froze up this morning. The belt was making a whining noise and smoke started coming from the A/C pulley area. The belt finally broke after a minute. My A/C has not worked since I bought the car, and i really don't care about it. Can the pulley alone be replaced or can a belt be installed from the crank pulley directly to the alternator, bypassing the A/C compressor? Its a 95 MTX.

Yes you can bypass it with a shorter belt. Some one found he right belt size, do a search and it'll turn up.

i installed a shorter belt on an MTX that lost the tensioner pulley. removed ALT to install, cut belt off to remove. squealed like a pig til it broke in. would flex like **** when engine revved, but never lost the belt. belt number is 400K6. i dont rcall the belt to use the tensioner with...its something like 430K6.
