Decided to make a separate thread for this.

Anyways, 99 SHO. 135k on the clock. Got it for real cheap... But it seems like the reverse is going out in it.

Put it in reverse, and the engine will rev and it will try to move... And if you keep revving it or rev it high enough - It will eventually "pop" into reverse and go... Otherwise it seems like it's slipping badly.

Tranny fluid looks dark, but still has some red to it.. Does NOT smell burnt at all.. And in the forward gears it does perfectly fine, doesn't shift hard, slip or shudder.

Any ideas? Is this tranny on it's way out? Or would a fluid change (with correct fluid + friction modifier if needed) do the trick?

I had the same problem about 4 years ago with my tranny. Same color, some similar issue with shifting (although from 1st to 2nd). I ended up saying screw it and tried a tranny flush because if that didn't work I was going to need a rebuild anyways and it did the trick. I got about 14 months out of her before OD ended up going out and needing a rebuild.

So, you'll probably need a rebuild in the future, but this will at least allow you to save up some money to do so if the tranny flush works.
