So I have a 99 SHO that has a little history with the transmission. My buddy bought this car back in February after sitting in a garage for 3 years untouched. He noticed right away it had no torque converter lock up and it eventually set a P1744 TCC Perform code.

He swapped the torque converter out with no improvement. Then changed the TCC solenoid on the valve body, no change. He then removed the valve body and found one of the little o-ring seals on the pump shaft was not there.

So he took the pump shaft out of a spare tranny also from a 99 we had in the garage that was no good. Once that seal was replaced it worked great (swapped pump shafts, did not change the seal on the original shaft).

Now 7000 miles later it started with the whole bucking when the converter locks and ultimately stopped locking up. The car now has a P1744 code again.

He has not yet taken the trans apart again to check the pump shaft. Our assumption is it probably will be the same thing as when he first bought the car. Is there anything else that can be happening in the transmission/valve body that will cause this in the event it is the same failure?

Looking in AllData it basically looks like its Converter, Pump Shaft, TCC Solenoid/Valve body and boost valve are the only things that may impact this. Just trying to collect some information before tearing it out.

So I did some research on the kit. The kit seems pretty nice and may very well ultimately solve the problem we have with this tranny. However, the "required" parts are insanely expensive.

Each one of those tool kits are $130 - $140. That pretty much kills it if i have to buy them.

Looking at 96201-TL2 + 96201-TL3 - those look to be just a regular boring tool which I can definately come up with. However, the other two look to be a bit more specialized.

Anyone have any input on this?
