So ive had a 97 sho since last winter bought the car it looked great and ran great then one day in the spring time car dies and never starts agian. Start diagnosing things and comes to be that the cam on the front exhaust side pin broke so took off the head got everything checked, got the cam welded and as i put everything toghter to see if it will even run again there was a speed bump and thats the timing chain does not have enough tension to go onto the camgear so i can bolt them in and make progress so my question is there a way to adjust the chain to give it just a bit of slack without taking apart the whole timing cover because that looks like a very hard job with alot of headaches. Any help would be great.

Simply put, No, you can't. Not without more trouble than it's worth.
Step one should have been "remove engine".
The timing cover must come off to reinstall the main timing chain.

yes you have to remove the timing cover tho its possible in the car. i have done it maybe 5-6 times that i can count off hand. all on my sho:nut:

short story make sure you pull that cover you want everything in time. i made the mistakes of not one time. guess what pistons smacked the valves and i was very mad! cost me about 1500 for 2 times of head work. once cam failed once my dumb fault:wave:

anyways if you ether pull the motor out or do it in the car ether way takes time so depending on the tools you have on hand. to me i thought doing it in the car was faster. drop the cradle some and know were all the bolts are because there is quite a few.
