I am trying to do my 96 brake upgrade on my 95. I bought the rotors and pads already. I bought caliper brackets from autozone but when i put them on they didn't fit right they were to small they where touching the rotor. I went to napa and got the 96 caliper bracket and that looks like the same size too but haven't tried it yet. My 2 questions are has anyone actually used diffrent caliper brackets besides ford ones, and can i use the 96 brake pads.

I used Ford brackets. Seems that some after markets are using the same pad for both years. At napa they have the same part number for the 94-95 as the 96 SHO. But yes you can use the actual 96 pad on there. As far as your bracket touch, seems you got the wrong bracket.

so i went searching the junkyards toda, i went to four of them and none of them had any gen 3's. What the **** is going on, old people driving these cars= accidents, no offense to anyone that owns a gen 3.

still haven't done the brake upgrade because i still can't find the right caliper brackets. So i ordered them from Shonut and should be getting them soon. I went to a couple junkyards in rockford to see if i could find them. First place i went you couldn't look around for the part so they went and got it for me, it was the same size as the 95 brackets. The second junkyard alot better people so they let me look around the yard and they had a 96 gen 3 on the rack, so i asked them if i could see the caliper brackets so i did and what did i see. IT WAS THE SAME SIZE AS MY 95 CALIPER BRACKETS, so i didn't get them. It dosen't make any sense.

I got my 96 upgrade from Joe Scott at SPMotorsports last year. We also got in a 96 upgrade from a customer who supplied his own parts, including the Ford brackets - no problems.

As far as the pads, there are 2 different parts numbers - the "598" & the "601". From what I'm told, they're not interchangeable one way, but are the other. Not sure which way is which, though.

i thought i mentioned this already but here goes again, isn't the '95 Continental bracket THE SAME as the '96 SHO bracket? both cars has interchangeable parts. take a look at the '95 Continental bracket and see if it is DIFFERENT from your '95 SHO bracket.

When I did my '96 brake upgrade three years ago I bought the caliper mounting brakets from the Ford dealership. Same bracket used on the '96-99 SHO as on the '95-01 Continential. BTW, you want the real '96-97 SHO and '95-01 Continential pads #598, not the smaller '94-95 SHO and '96-01 SLO pads #601. Check out the Leigh Smith's brake survey on the FAQ

If you have a '94-95 then the '96 11.6" front brake upgrade is a bolt-on. The '90-93 need to upgrade the spindles/hubs to '94-95 Taurus/Sable units with ABS. The '89 didn't have ABS so any '94-95 Taurus/Sable assembly will do. BTW, don't forget to replace the bearings while your at it.

I thought the 94/95 regular taurus/sable units were the same as the 90-93 sho units? 94/95 taurus/sables definitely didn't have the same brakes as the sho. I know the gen III taurus/sable had the same brakes as the 94/95 sho though.

The cobra brakes bolt right up to the same calipers..

Go 12.5 instead of the seemingly small 96 upgrade.

SHOTIME - Did you say the Cobra 12.5's will bolt up to the 94/95 SHO calipers? Can you give details on this upgrade? Much appreciated.

If the Cobra calipers bolt right on, what year is the one that bolts right up? I've got a 91, and I'm looking for which is the best way to upgrade brakes? My 94 was very easy to upgrade, so I'm not familiar with any thing not being able to bolt right up.

The '94-01 Cobra Mustang's 13.0" front brakes setup (with HD PBR 2-piston caliper and mounting brackets) and will bolt-on the '94-95 SHO or an earlier SHO fitted with the '94-95 spindles. The 13.0" x 1.03" thick rotors have a 5 x 4.5" lug pattern that will need to be modified to fit the SHO's 5 x 4.25" pattern. Plus you will need to upgrade to 17" rims/tires. Baer sells a similar kit under their so-called Track system. This is also the same as the C4 Corvette's HD 13.0" front brakes.

Baer also sells a 12.0" Sport & A-sedan kit using a smaller 12.0" x 0.84" rotor and LT duty 2-piston PBR caliper. This setup will fit inside a 16" rim. This is also the same as the C4 Corvette's standard 12.0" front brakes.

So I got my caliper brackets today. I FINALLY got my 96' brake upgrade done. The bolts weren't that hard to get off. The only thing i need to get r new pads, because the ones i got from the guy that sold me the rotors and pads. The pads r too big, and they don't fit into the caliper. So where do i get these #598 pads and who makes them?
