There is a notch in that stud that the bolt fits though. Look in the hole and you will find that you will likely have to pry it out a little before the bolt goes in.

Drill it very carefully. Start with a smaller bit, and work up slowly.. when it get's close to the size of the bolt, usually the heat and the constant friction of the drill will crack it loose and you should be able to twist it out with your fingers... like from the back side.. if you have some bolt sticking out there...

pictures would be great.. ;)

how do i post pictures???? but the only bit of thread is the very end the head sheared right off almost clean :( but i was thinking sawzauling on each side of strut bracket then sliding the hub off then drilling i figured two small pieces are better than one big one lol

I broke a pinch bolt on mine as well. remove the strut from the vehicle and take a sawzall down one side of it. you want to leave the tab intact for the most part. don't be too afraid of getting too close to the strut. you'll know when you've gone far enough because you'll hear a pop. after the pop lift the strut off the ground and hold it vertical. hit the knuckle with a rubber mallet and the two pieces well separate. you'll end up forcing the bolt remnant out of the bottom of the tab but it's only for positioning the bolt at the proper ride height. people doing a cheap drop will modify the tab to get the car to sit lower.

when the bit is about to go through it will snag almost every time. back it off and then let the drill run up to speed and push it through again. you may have to do it a couple times. you trying to salvage a 94/95 knuckle?

as far as snapping you need to use some oil. cutting through metal generates a lot of heat. I'm guessing that you are starting small and then working your way up? the smaller bits do tend to snap very easy as well. they aren't meant to drill through a couple inches of metal. the further you go in the increased resistance and the tip is also fairly far from where the torque is generated. if the tip encounters a lot of resistance the motor will keep moving at the same speed until it runs out of available stretch and will either stop or snap the bit.

seeing as how you have the knuckle by itself i'd be inclined to take it to somebody and have them fix it. supposedly there is some process where they vaporize the bolt remnant. Somebody on here mentioned it before on snapped exhaust manifold studs.

Drill it out for a 7/16" bolt or metric equivalent and use a bolt and nut.
