I've got a 95 SHO and I got the OEM pad which is the same as the dealer recommended. I've been having trouble cramming the pad into the front caliper, and so I went online and found this page: http://www.shoclub.com/membersonly/brakepads.htm

Basically, they say that the dealer recommended part is for the '96 and later models, and that the correct part is smaller. Has anyone done a brake job on the SHO?

The part numbers are
XF3Z-2001-CB for the recommended part
YF1Z-2001-AA for the smaller pad, which is what came on the car when I bought it used.

I had the same problem. The online system the dealers use specifies a 96 pad for a 95 sho. The 96 pads are too tall. My dealer order many different pads for me, and we determined that the 94 police pads were the right size. They seem very good to me. They do, however, produce oodles of brake dust.

There are 2 generic numbers - 598 & 601.

I believe the 601's are the correct ones for the 95, and the 598's are the slotted pads, for the 96's.

Of course, I could have this backwards - someone back me up or refute?

You got it. 601's are the '94 and '95 SHO, '96+ SLO and '96+ Windstar and the 598's are the '96+ SHO.
