i had my car for a week and a half and the exact same thing happen to me only i have a 94 mtx i was costing up to a light and it was in second gear and the car started jerking ( needed a turn up running right now) anyway and so i push in the clutch and but it in first reved it up a little so it wouldnt slow down and the next thing i hear is a loud bang and the car was loud like urs it where might blew off was right at the y pipe right after the cats. right before the resanator (sry about the spelling) and i had to drive 45 min home with it like that.. i posted somethe about it in another website and no one ever answered it.. but anyway i took it to a shop and cut about half in inch off the y and the back pipe and welded about a 2 inch peice they had laying on the floor that they probably were not going to use and it didnt cost me a thing my exhaust has been fine ever sence.:woo-hoo:

SHO ATX exhaust issues

I agree. Exhaust shop or general repair shop should be able to fix that w/o problem. From what I remember replacing my ATX exhaust, pipe in that area is 2 1/2 ID, should be able to get it spot welded, also replaced the (certainly) trashed rubber hangers -- probably what led to your problem in the first place.

What I've seen is that leaking oil gets on the rubber hangers and disintegrates them, pretty soon the center section of the exhaust is just hanging from the flex pipe, and after a while that just gives away...
