This is my first post, great forum, I've spent 2 days just reading the others. I replaced the trans with a $400 (130K) unit from the salvage yard. In mid Michigan, I only found 1 for sale. Anyway, after getting it back in the car I realized the new trans has a badly worn sleeve bearing on the right side, output to the drive shaft. It wasn't till I put the shaft into the trans that I noticed all the play. Now have a sharp vib at 65. Is there a way to pull this while still in the car? One trans shop I talked to said they can use a Shaft Stabilizer kit ($130). They weren't forthcoming with details. It looks like it would require either a special puller, or complete trans disassmebly to get at. Any ideas would be great. We don't want to put much into it as it has 225k and a little rust starting. But we love the SHO and JBL sound.

Hi, and welcome to the forum! :)

Kirk D. (SHODWN on the forum) has a solution available that IIRC is around $75, which while a bit pricey it's less than you were quoted and can be done with the tranny in the car. I'll check with him tomorrow and let you know the details.

I think I've found it. Auto Zone has a Blind Hole Bearing Puller that looks like it will do the job. Expensive - $139 deposit. Hopefully I'll be able to pull the good one from my original trans and use it.
