Hey guys I hope that someone can help me cause I am out of ideas. Heres that problem, A 94 ATX that is runnign really rough, misfires and has a really sudden loss of power throughout the powerband. WHne you accelerate it seems to be backfiring through the intake cause I hear 3-4 pops. Also under acceleration the car barely moves and there is a sputtering sound coming from the motor. We have checked all of the electrical connections, swapped in a different DIS, maf and put in new plugs and checked the wires. Looked over all of the vacuum lines and even took the intake apart to completely clean it including the EGR system. We also removed the Y-pipe cause whne I was driving behind the car on the freeway it was puffing out black smoke under acceleration and thne it started spitting out little glowing pieces of cat at my car. We put the Y-pipe back up after whe hollowed out the cats. The problem is still there and I don't know what else to do except take a match to it. The problem all started after the motor was washed and detailed (somewhat). Sorry for the long post, but hopefully someone can help diagnose the problem cause the car is really needed to get to work and back.

Nick, get yourself some new cats for the y-pipe. ;) I think that'll be your problem area sir.

Oh...one more thing...don't drive the car any more until you do. Plugged cats can catch the car on fire...for real.

~or~

Pull the pipe and gut the cats for now. Other than replacing them (@100 each at Performance Plus), that is the only solution.

I have a spare Y-pipe at Bills house that I wanted to swap in there, but put the original one back in there...so it looks like I'm gonan be swapping the Y tomorrow. It was actually quite funny cause I was driving down the freeway behind Tara and all I see is glowing chunks of cat coming at my car, I was just glad they didn't catch on fire. OH btw Beth check your PP acount in a few.
