it was over a year ago I bought a remanufactured alternator from a memeber on here for my 92. The minute i installed it the red battery light was on. I figured i got ripped off but it seemed to work fine. I even tested it at autozone and the numbers came up correct. The car had 140k on it when installed and it finally died at 164k. The strange thing is the battery light was on when it was working and went off when the alternator died. Im thinking it was just barely surviving or my amp killed it. I dont want to ruin my new alternator so should i buy a capacitor for my car stereo amplifier or just sell it and rewire it for a 94-95 alternator?

how big of an amp do you have?
for the most part, capacitors are dumb.
my brother has 200 watts rms with no problems on a stock 92 alt.
sounds like it was on the edge and finally went. (weird light issue aside.)

I had one that showed up at O'Reilly as working correctly, but it was only putting out 9 amps. Not enough. That was the 4th alternator in a row that I was having issues with. Ended up with a rebuilt Motorcraft (highly suggested), and it's been perfect since.

+1. and that's true for many, many ford cars and trucks. autozone oreilly or advance with a lifetime warranty, you'll probably need it.

Maybe you should spring for a new/ reman alternator instead of another used one of unknown provenance.

I would go with a 90A unit again. The swap to a 3G alternator is not an inexpensive one (when done properly).
