93 Mtx in PA

Hello all!!! I am a current SVT Contour nut, and own a 99 black and tan.. and I have made the move to acquire a Gen 2 SHO to match my other rare ford. its a 1993 MTX with 136K on it!!

Car seems to be in GREAT shape body wise.. everything in the interior works.. it's a "plus" in Deep Jewel green, all leather grey interior.

So moon-roof, power antenna, key-less entry, lighted up door locks. The best part... I got it running and inspected. there is not a speck of rust on the body of the car..

Some kid owned the car and literally replaced everything ignition wise EXCEPT the D.I.S. so the car doesn't even move the tach at all on key start and runs VERY rough.. I narrowed it down, thanks to the GREAT community on this website and it MUST be the D.I.S. sensor.. car starts, runs, but VERY rough. plugs look good, kid replaced a bunch of grounds and such. checked compression, but never even thought to touch the D.I.S. sensor.. the sensor itself is cracked and if what I read is correct it sends info to the tach. the screws we loose on the bottom, and there was ZERO thermal paste on the back of it..

I started the car today with it running and the tach doesn't move not even at all. dead to the world. so it MUST be this sensor. or the wiring that runs it.

Anyways, i paid 400$ for it. read it and weep I am addicted and can't wait to see what this baby has in store.

(I bought it because it was in a great shape and my SVT is down right now with a dead Diff )

Welcome. Cracked DIS can be a big problem and the screws are also ground points for the module. The 'plus' only applies to 1991 cars with that option.

I was unaware of the Plus only being "relevant" on a 1991 thanks for the heads up.. I can talk SVT contours all day but S.H.O.'s are a horse of different color.

Other than the 60K and 120K anything else I should be on the look-out for at the moment regarding the car?? I really believe once I swap the D.I.S., it should be running fine.. it has the typical cam leaks e.t.c.

So either th D.I.S. is shot/bad or the cam sensor is bad or both lol

Where in PA are you. There are some good mechanics in PA and some of the Philly and even middle of the state members seem to get together or meet up at not too far events from what I have seen posted around here.

I am located in south east PA (Lehigh Valley area)

I do most of my own work, so it shouldn't be too terrible.

I will be taking it to the Bethlehem Cars and Coffee event on OCT 23.. anyone out this way come say high!! I believe I will probably be the ONLY gen 2 SHO there.

Welcome to the SHO world!
Check your cam sensor for the tach issue. This will also cause rough running. It's probably full of oil and a cam seal replacement.

Thanks for the info I appreciate it. After doing ym own research it appears that it is one or the other (CAM or D.I.S.) I have a new D.I.S. on the way.. If I read correctly I should be able to unplug the CAM sensor and the car should lean itself out.. it may be hard to start... but atleast I can move it to my place to actually work on it lol

right now it just runs WAY to rough to actually drive it, it barley idles let alone trying to put a load on it :0)

If you run into trouble Area 91 above is not too far away and there are others in a wide vicinity that can do work if you get over your head or too busy. Lehigh Valley is cool. I remember the music festival and dating a puerto rican girl from Bethlehem a long time ago.
