So... my accessory belt idler (tensioner?) located close to my alternator is making a **** of a whining noise.

Is there a cheap way to go about replacing this? Cheapest I've found for the replacement is $75.00. Does anyone have one laying around they can free up?

Also, I'm assuming this would be a GREAT time to replace the acc. belt. What brand / type would you recommend? Are those GoodForAYear Gators any good?

Thanks.

The belt is quite easy to replace on the ATX. I recommend both the Gates and Goodyear belts. Here is the best source for each that I have found.

Gates K060854, RockAuto.com, $20.58
Goodyear 4060850, CarParts.com, $20.19

That is the idler pully, (the tensioner is right underneath the power stearing pully.) Instead of replaceing the whole pully you should be able to pull the bearing out and replace it for about $6. Look in your phone book under Bearings. Just take it in and they should carry a replacement size bearing, put it back in, your good to go.
