When I bought the car I had no idea it was a SHO. I only bought it because it was a 5 speed and I love to drive manuals. My buddy brought it to my attention of what I had purchased. I have never worked on a car before other then oil change things like that. Well first time I have ever taken it down to the head. I only had the Chilton book and my electrical background. Today I sit here with new PCM on board and a lot of sweat and hard work knowing this was my first time. Tomorrow I will be giving my gal a start for the first time in a year and a half. I have one code 551. It is either the IRCM or the idle air valve behind throttle body? And if any one knows the voltage I should be getting at both of the connectors that would be great as well. I know there is the 5 volt reference that goes out. Is it the same on the IRCM ?

Check on ebay and see about getting a factory service manual. They come in handy when digging in that far.

So I found a new PCM found the Dorman part for the IRCM, now I have a question about the crank shaft. Had piston 5 baring make noise. I pull the oil pan and only number 5 was loose and took it apart to find a worn out baring. So how is it that one goes and the others didn’t? Can I resurface the one for number 5 and use same kind of baring or do I need to use a different size? Anything pertaining to this isssue Would be extremely helpful.

Post a picture of the bearing and the crank surface. Lots of pictures, both halves of the bearing, and wear side and block side of the bearing shells.

There is a chance the bearing "spun" which can, in part, be indicated by looking at the little "tang" on the backside of the bearing.

Lots of things to familiarize yourself with:
manual crank journal polishing
plasti-gauge
replacement bearings from RockAuto when available, or E-Bay
replacement crankshaft complete with bearings from RockAuto when available.

To start things off, get a plasi-guage set, and following the instructions, do the procedure with your existing bearing shells and expect some big numbers.

Bearings come is standard diameter, and some undersized crank journal sizes (like possibly .002").

Give these things a try and try to be optimistic, but often, if it was making a noise you could hear, the bearing has spun and damaged the crank.

Post the pictures for a start.
